Week 4 · Lesson plan
Objectives
- Write an email request with a subject that names what you need and when. (Practice Mail; post-test item 13)
- Use words that welcome everyone, and offer a choice instead of guessing. (Practice Mail; post-test item 15)
- Put the right people in To and in Bcc, and know what Bcc does and does not do. (Practice Mail; post-test item 14)
- Give feedback on one shared copy: write a specific comment, reply, then resolve it. (Microsoft Word; post-test item 16)
- Check an offer for when it ends, what it costs, how often you pay, and how to cancel. (Microsoft Edge; post-test item 17)
Observable outcomes
- Request: in Practice Mail, each learner types a subject with the day and time, a four-line message with a Friday-at-noon deadline and an email-or-phone choice, and changes «guys» to «everyone».
- Recipients: each learner puts desk@example.com in To and the three volunteer addresses in Bcc, sends the practice message, and reads the Who sees what box. They can say what Bcc hides and what it does not stop.
- Comments: in Word, each learner types the four-line handout, posts the specific comment, adds the Help desk line, replies Added, thank you, resolves the thread, and saves Handout with comments in Documents.
- Offer: on the practice page, each learner finds when the free days end (day 8), the price ($12), how often it is charged (each month) and how to cancel (Account › Billing › Cancel plan), and writes all four on the worksheet.
How this lesson runs
You project the deck and the class does each step together, one or two clicks per slide. Every step slide names the program in its top corner, gives the clicks, and says what learners should see. The worksheet repeats every step with a check box, so anyone who falls behind can catch up, and adds an If you get stuck box for each part. Wait for every screen to match before moving on.
Each part opens with a slide naming the program, then why it matters, a short video clip, the steps and one check question. Week 4 teaches only the five skills on the post-test (items 13 to 17): a clear request, welcoming words, Bcc, comments on one shared copy and a charge that repeats. Every step is one or two actions with what you should see. The video chapters on choosing a channel, meetings and community posts are not played. There is no break and no timer. Minutes below are a guide for pacing, not a clock for learners.
120-minute plan
| Elapsed minutes | Slides | Segment |

| 0–8 (8 min) | 1–4 | Welcome, goals and plan |
| 8–13 (5 min) | 5–9 | Before we start: open the worksheet |
| 13–43 (30 min) | 10–29 | Part 1 · Practice Mail: Write a request people can act on |
| 43–60 (17 min) | 30–42 | Part 2 · Practice Mail: Choose who sees which addresses |
| 60–90 (30 min) | 43–70 | Part 3 · Microsoft Word: Give feedback on one shared copy |
| 90–108 (18 min) | 71–82 | Part 4 · Microsoft Edge: Check an offer before you agree |
| 108–120 (12 min) | 83–87 | Wrap-up: check, I can, take it home |
Video clips
The full video is not played. Each Watch slide plays only its own clip, with captions, and stops by itself:
- Part 1: a message someone can act on, 1:25 to 2:10 of the Week 4 video.
- Part 2: who receives it, 2:12 to 2:32 of the Week 4 video.
- Part 3: why one copy, 3:00 to 3:15 of the Week 4 video.
- Part 3: a useful comment, 3:48 to 4:21 of the Week 4 video.
- Part 4: review an offer, 6:01 to 6:27 of the Week 4 video.

Week-specific preparation
Each station: Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Word that opens without a sign-in, and File Explorer. No email account is needed: Practice Mail (activities/practice-mail.html) works in Edge on every computer and accepts only addresses that end in example.com, which is reserved for examples and accepts no mail. Before class, check that Word can save to Documents on This PC (not only OneDrive), and that Practice Mail and the practice offer open from the Week 4 worksheet. Check sound on the projector: play the first Watch slide. Keep a roster for the end-of-class check. Print the worksheet if you can: the My result page is the written evidence. After your own run-through, delete Handout with comments and select Start fresh on this computer at each station.
