Week 3 · Lesson plan
Objectives
- Make headings Word can find, using Heading 1 and Heading 2, not just bold. (Microsoft Word; post-test item 9)
- Save a handout as a PDF, so it looks the same on any computer or printer. (Microsoft Word; post-test item 12)
- Add costs with a formula that updates by itself when a cost changes. (Microsoft Excel; post-test item 10)
- Use a photo the right way: crop it, and give the credit its permission asks for. (Microsoft PowerPoint; post-test item 11)
Observable outcomes
- Headings: in Word, each learner types the seven handout lines, applies Heading 1 to the title and Heading 2 to Who it helps and Steps, numbers the three steps, and shows all three headings in the Navigation Pane. No heading made with bold alone.
- PDF: each learner saves the handout as a PDF in the Resource pack folder, opens it, and says why a neighbor without Word should get the PDF.
- Formula: in Excel, each learner types the supply list, enters =SUM(B2:B4) in B5 (25), writes a prediction, changes Paper to 15, sees 28, and saves Supply list as an Excel workbook.
- Photo: in PowerPoint, each learner picks a theme, types the title and the credit line, inserts the practice photo, crops it, and saves Flyer; they can say why the credit line is there.
How this lesson runs
You project the deck and the class does each step together, one or two clicks per slide. Every step slide names the program in its top corner, gives the clicks, and says what learners should see. The worksheet repeats every step with a check box, so anyone who falls behind can catch up, and adds an If you get stuck box for each part. Wait for every screen to match before moving on.
Each part opens with a slide naming the program, then why it matters, a short video clip, the steps and one check question. Week 3 teaches only the four skills on the post-test (items 9 to 12), plus numbered steps in Word and a PowerPoint theme. There is no break and no timer. Minutes below are a guide for pacing, not a clock for learners.

| 43–55 (12 min) | 24–31 | Part 2 · Microsoft Word: Save your handout as a PDF |
| 55–80 (25 min) | 32–47 | Part 3 · Microsoft Excel: Add costs with a total that updates |
| 80–108 (28 min) | 48–66 | Part 4 · Microsoft PowerPoint: Use a photo the right way |
| 108–120 (12 min) | 67–71 | Wrap-up: check, I can, take it home |
Video clips
The full video is not played. Each Watch slide plays only its own clip, with captions, and stops by itself:
- Part 1: make a real heading, 0:43 to 1:12 of the Week 3 video.
- Part 2: why a PDF, 5:54 to 6:03 of the Week 3 video.
- Part 3: a formula that adds, 2:10 to 3:16 of the Week 3 video.
- Part 4: permission and credit, 6:19 to 6:35 of the Week 3 video.
- Part 4: crop or resize, 4:40 to 5:06 of the Week 3 video.

Week-specific preparation
Each station: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint that open without a sign-in, Microsoft Edge, and File Explorer on the taskbar. Before class, check that Word can save to Documents on This PC (not only OneDrive), that Edge can download the practice photo from the Week 3 worksheet, and that no old Resource pack folder is left in Documents. Check sound on the projector: play the first Watch slide. Keep a roster for the end-of-class check. After your own run-through, delete your Resource pack folder and the downloaded photo, then select Start fresh on this computer at each station.
